Going "Hollywood" in Beijing

We spent a good part of the day at the silk market. (More on that later). We then met up with a woman named Susan Pattisand members of China’s Export / Import Bank (similar to our Federal Reserve).

Susan had her driver pick us up at the hotel. He took us to the capital building. We took the elevator up 50 or so flights where we met Susan in a private room. Susan is an impressive woman. She received her Ph.D. from UCLA and has been instrumental in bringing American companies to China. She even came up with the slogan that helped win the rights for Beijing to host the olympics in 2008.

We discussed several opportunities for business in China. Most interestingly, Susan is working with the bank to set up a movie fund. China would like to produce movies in China about Chinese culture or history. The goal is “to bring China to the rest of the world.” She wanted us to help by setting up a fund that the EXIM bank would match. U.S. companies could then draw from this fund to produce movies. It will be interesting if anything comes from this.
